"Our motto this year was to play hard from the first pitch of the game until the last pitch of the game,'' Waterford coach Don Connors told the New London Day.

Waterford led 4-2 after four innings and broke the game open in the fifth. Kate Murphy had a two-run double, Jen Brax and Anna Levesque each had two-run singles and Jen Ward and Danyle Abate also drove in runs.

Gm. 1: Orange 4, Montville Nat'l. 1
WALLINGFORD, July 28 -- Three runs in the third inning lifted Orange to a 4-1 victory past the Montville Nationals in game 1 of the Connecticut Major Division (ages 11-12) Little League baseball championship series Sunday at Cytec Field.

Nick Ferris had a RBI double to give Orange a 2-0 lead in the third before cleanup hitter Chris Migani ripped a RBI triple down the right field line for to score Ferris and a 3-0 lead. "All it takes is to get my kids riled up," Dave Migani told the New Haven Register.
"Then they start to pound the ball. Our top four guys are so dangerous, it's unbelievable."

Orange hurler Mike Nich allowed only four hits with his heavy dose of curveballs and changeups. He struck out 10. Montville National pitcher Patrick Quinn also struck out 10 batters but he gave up 11 hits. Montville National scored in the bottom of the sixth when a fielder's choice by Kyle Orzechowski drove in Matt Forman, who singled to start the inning.

Gm. 2: Orange 9, Montville Nat'l 1
WALLINGFORD, July 29 -- A seven-run surge in the sixth inning broke open a close game and helped Orange earn its first state championship in 30 years with a 9-1 win over Montville National and a sweep of the best-of-3 finals series. Hurler Nick Shanley, pitching for only the second time in All-Star competition this month, allowed only two hits and fanned six.

Montville National pitcher Taylor Lewis had a no-hitter heading into the fifth inning and a 1-0 lead thanks to a home run from teammate Kyle Orzechowski. But Orange's led off the fifth with a home run that ignited the Orange attack. Chris Peterson had a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to give Orange a 2-1 lead before the winners added seven in the sixth inning thanks to three errors and four hits.
