LOWELL, Mass., July 22 -- Lowell pitcher Michael Frost allowed only five hits, walked none and struck out six to down the Twisters (4-6) in a complete-game performance. Lowell left fielder Anthony DeRosa had two hits and one RBI.

Shortstop Lou Ferrell had two hits for Torrington while Brandon Roberts added a triple. Twister pitcher Jason Jones (1-2) allowed only four hits and fanned four. He also had no walks.

Lowell (6-2) took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when outfielder Drew Locke led off with a triple and scored on a RBI single by Jason Armstrong. DeRosa's RBI single two batters later scored Armstrong.

TORRINGTON, June 21, 2002 -- As he always does, Twister second baseman Blake Justice was trying to make things happen. But it had what could be a tragic consequence. Justice hurt his knee trying to steal home in the bottom of the ninth inning at Fuessenich Park. It could be an ACL injury.

"I hope (team doctor) Doc McKenna is wrong with this one but that doesn't happen too often," Twister coach Gregg Hunt said. Keene (3-3) erased a two-run deficit with a pair of runs in the eighth inning and won it the 13th. Twister starter Tim Rice pitched seven strong innings but running into trouble in the eighth. Game 8: Twisters 6, Willimantic 5
TORRINGTON, June 20 -- A suicide squeeze bunt by shortstop Lou Ferrell in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a three-run outburst as the Twisters (4-4) rallied to beat Thread City, 6-5 before 1,524 at Fuessenich Park. Trailing by two runs, Justin McClain led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk before Mike Sokol was hit by a pitch. After a pop fly out, pinch hitter Lee Lipschutz ripped a two-RBI triple to right/center field to tie the game.

Ferrell laid down a perfect bunt and Lipschutz charged home with the winning run. A suicide bunt attempt by John Cronin in a similar situation had failed on Tuesday night in a loss to Manchester.

David Talamantez earned second save in two nights by closing out the contest in the ninth. Reliever Joseph Shortt (2-0) earned the win. Twister starter Shane Kelley allowed seven hits in six innings while striking out seven. Ferrell and John Cronin each had two hits for the Twisters. The Tides (2-7) have lost seven straight games.

Game 7: Twisters 4, Willimantic 2
WILLIMANTIC, June 19 --- Thomas Evans' RBI single in the top of the 11th inning knocked in the winning run and Lou Ferrell added an insurance run with his RBI single as the Twisters snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win in 11 innings over the Tides. Jim Fasano was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Torrington (3-4) while Jordan Czarniecki added two hits.

Starter Brian Mattoon went nine innings for Torrington, allowing only three hits and fanning 10. Reliever David Talamantez pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. Willimantic (2-7) dropped its sixth straight contest.

John Cronin led off the 11th with a single, stole second base and took third when Czarniecki struck out but advanced to third when the third strike got away from Willimantic catcher Jeff Funaro. Cronin scored on Evans' single. After Czarniecki was picked off second base and Wick Udy grounded out, Ferrell ripped a two-out single to score Evans.

Game 6: Manchester 6, Twisters 5
TORRINGTON, June 18 -- Catcher Wick Udy helped reverse the Twisters' fortunes in the bottom of the sixth inning. His opposite field single to the left field scored a run and another scored when the ball slipped behind Manchester left fielder Brent Stephens.

But it was only temporary reprieve as the Twisters erased a three-run deficit to the tie the game in the seventh inning. Manchester's Rusty Brown's two-run home run off reliever John Cronin in the ninth inning lifted the previously winless Silkworms (1-6) to a 6-5 NECBL victory over Torrington. The Twisters (2-4) lost their fourth straight game for only the third time in team history.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y., June 17 -- The Twisters beat Keene, 3-0, in an seven-inning exhibition game at Cooperstown's Doubleday Field on Monday. Lefthander Tim Rice (University of Richmond/Brookfield) made his debut on the mound with three strong innings. Torrington had eight hits with Blake Justice contributing two hits.

KEENE, N.H., June 16 -- The Swamp Bats scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the Twisters (2-3) at Alumni Field. Keene hurler David Austen went the distance, allowed only three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Torrington's Blake Justice was 2-for-2 while Justin McClain belted his first home run of the season.

The Twisters led 3-0. McClain hit a solo home run in the second inning while in the third inning Brandon Roberts scored on a balk and Lee Lipshutz scored on a sacrifice fly. Torrington's Jason Jones was the hard-luck loser as he allowed five runs, just two earned on seven hits and stuck out ten for the loss. The Bats scored three unearned runs after Torrington second baseman Thomas Evans dropped a pop fly with two outs.
