TORRINGTON, July 12 -- Wick Udy threw out a runner in the top of the eighth inning and had the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth as the Twisters (14-12) swept a doubleheader from slumping Middletown. Udy was 5-for-8 in the two games with a pair of doubles and two RBI.
In game one, Torrington won, 4-3, in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases loaded hit batter. Jeff Hourigan went the distance in game 1, striking out 11. Shane Kelley earned the win in game two for Torrington, which swept the season series for the Giants for the first time in team history.

Riverpoint ended a six-game losing streak behind a complete game performance from Reid Willett, who scattered seven hits and struck out 12. The Twisters rallied from a two-run deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning on Wick Udy's RBI double and Jeff Hourigan scoring on an error.
But Riverpoint (6-14) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a one-run lead on three hits and two Twister errors. With the loss, Torrington falls three games behind first place Danbury. Twisters game postponed to Friday TORRINGTON, July 9 -- The Twisters game with Middletown was postponed by rain and will be played as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday at Fuessenich Park.
Two Swamp Bats honored by NECBL NEWPORT, July 8 -- Keene left fielder Bryan LaHair was named the NECBL player of the week while Keene pitcher David Humen and Concord hurler Grant Reynolds shared NECBL pitcher of the week honors. LaHair, a 6-5 outfielder from St. Petersburg Community College batted .323 during the week with 10 hits while driving in a league-high eight runs and 18 total bases as the Bats went 5-2. Reynolds was 2-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA, fanning 15 batters in 12 innings pitched. He fanned 14 Riverpoint batters in a 5-0 win and picked up another win in relief. Humen (2-0, 0.64 ERA) was 2-0 for Concord, striking out 15 batters in 14 innings.
Game 22: Twisters 6, West Warwick 0 TORRINGTON, July 7, 2002 -- Pitcher Shane Kelley, who lasted just over an inning in his last start against Manchester on July 2, allowed just one hit over 8 2/3 innings to lead the Twisters (11-11) past slumping Riverpoint Royals of West Warwick, R.I., 6-0. Kelley, who struck out five batters, only allowed a leadoff single to Riverpoint third baseman John Blaze in the second inning. Ladd Hall came on in relief in the ninth to record the final two outs of the game.
It was the first time in team history that the Twisters had allowed only one hit. Justin Parker did throw a no-hitter against Middletown in 2000.
