ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 13 -- Stanley, N.C. topped Newington, 33-6 to win the Division II Pop Warner national championship Friday morning in a game played in heavy rain.

The Newington Junior Pee-Wee team shutout Leander/Cedar Park, Texas, 21-0, to earn a spot in the national Division II Pop Warner championship game Friday morning against Stanley, North Carolina. Newington fullback Bobby Hemmann rushed for 113 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown.


Division I junior midget
The New Britain junior midget football team lost its Division I semifinal Wednesday to the Naperville (Illis.) Redskins by a 32-8 score.

Division II Pee-Wee
In the Division II Pee-Wee division semifinals, Kalani, Hawaii outlasted Pomperaug, 22-16.

Harvey, Ill., outlasted Ansonia, 16-6

Division I Midget
The New Britain midget football team lost to Cape Coral, Fla., 22-0 on Sunday in the Division I midget semifinals. It was the first time that a New Britain squad has been shutout at the national tournament.

New Britain won its consolation midget contest Wednesday with a 26-24 OT win over Elgin, Ill. to finish third in the Division I Midget Division.

Five state teams in national Pop Warner finals
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 4, 2002 --  Five Connecticut Pop Warner football teams won 2002 New England region championships and qualified to participate in the Pop Warner national tournament Dec. 9-13 in Orlando, Florida. Connecticut teams won five of the eight possible regional crowns.

New Britain (midget, junior midget) won a pair of Division I titles while Ansonia (junior midget), Pomperaug (Pee Wee) and Newington (junior Pee Wee) won Division II championships.
