Game 1: Orange 5, Middletown 1
Game 2: Orange 13, Middletown 1

Orange 5, Middletown 1
SIMSBURY, July 23 – A thunderstorm that took down a tree close to Memorial Field on Friday night just delayed the inevitable. The game was suspended after three innings and completed on Saturday with Orange taking the opening game in the best-of-3 final.

Orange 13, Middletown 1
SIMSBURY, July 23 – Orange pitcher Lorie Borelli pitched a no-hitter, striking out six and walking one as Orange swept Middletown, 13-1, to win the state championship for the second straight year. "Lorie’s been doing this now for four years," Orange manager Ken Slowik told the New Haven Register. "She’s been the horse." A nine-run first inning separated Orange from Middletown. Jennifer Post, Cassie Slowik and Katie Winkle each had two-RBI singles. "We got off to a quick start,” Ken Slowik said. “To be honest with you, I was waiting for our team to have some innings like that. We’re capable of having innings like that.” Middletown didn’t help by walking three batters, hitting two and committing two errors.

Farmington 3, Glastonbury Nationals 2
MANCHESTER, July 30 – A hit batter, wild pitch and sacrifice fly from Carlson Helms in the fifth gave Farmington enough to slip past Glastonbury Nationals, 3-2 and capture its first-ever Little League Major Division (ages 11-12) baseball state championship. Pitcher Brian Cohan went the distance for Farmington, allowing five hits. Farmington (13-2) erased a 2-0 lead with a 3-run fifth inning. "Our defense was unbelievable," Farmington coach Bill Spracklin told The Herald Press. "Everybody ..played great. The shortstops were unbelievable ..We said all year that pitching and defense were the most important thing. We’re going to score enough runs if we pitch and play defense." Christian Dubay was 3-for-3 at the plate for Farmington, including a hustling single in the fifth to start the winning rally. Jason Sutkowski had a two-run HR for Glastonbury (12-2) in the third.

Farmington 2, Glastonbury Nationals 1
MANCHESTER, July 29 – David Wiegard struck out six and allowed only two hits as Farmington topped Glastonbury Nationals, 2-1 in game 1 of the best-of-3 finals. Glastonbury (12-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Jason Sutkowski.

But Farmington (12-2) quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth. Christian Dubay led off with a double and took third with a wild pitch. With one out, Sean Haggerty walked and stole second. Both runners scored on a two-RBI single from Anthony Perri. Wiegard didn’t allow a baserunner in the final two innings.

"Our motto this year is pitching and defense," Farmington coach Bill Spracklin told The New Britain Herald. "We’re a good hitting club, but when we lost the game (in the sectional tournament) to Shelton, we didn’t play defense. If you pitch and play defense, you’ll win most of the time."
