Fairfield American sweeps
STAMFORD, July 25 -- Fairfield American topped Waterford South, 9-2 to win their third state title in the 9-10 division and first since 2004. The Americans also won in 2002. Waterford South lost in the finals for the second straight year. Fairfield Americans finish the season at 14-1. Coach Bill Meury says his players take the field with a disciplined and professional approach while not taking themselves too seriously. "First and foremost, it's a modest group of kids," Meury told the Fairfield Patch. "They have had an awful lot of success, but they're very understated in terms of how they handle things."
