DANBURY, July 17 – P Alice Nelson struck out three and walked four as Fairfield (11-1) to win its first-ever Major Division state championship with a 6-2 victory over Mystic. Sara Cotto and Emma Houghton each had RBI singles in the first inning to help Fairfield grab a 2-0 lead. Gabby Natoli had a two-RBI double in the fifth inning to break open a one-run game. Fairfield had five hits and took advantage of seven walks and several errors by Mystic, which was making its first finals appearance since 2003.

DANBURY, July 16 – P Brittany Romero allowed just five hits as Fairfield rallied from a two-run deficit to beat Mystic, 3-2 and win game 1 of the best-of-3 Connecticut Little League Major Division (ages 11-12) championship series. Fairfield (6-0) scored twice in the fifth to take the lead. Mystic P Caroline Taber scattered three this and struck out four. Taber and Jayden Delaporta each had doubles for Mystic, which scored its two runs on four straight one-hit hits in the first inning. Mackenzie Aldridge was 2-for-2 for Mystic (5-2).

WEST HAVEN, July 30 – In a rematch of last year’s championship series, Black Rock turned the tables with a pair of one-run victories to capture the Little League softball Junior Division state title with a 1-0 win over Waterford in game 2 of the best-of-3 championship series. Jackie Brewster’s RBI line drive over the third baseman’s head drove in the winning run in the fourth inning.
Black Rock P Rachel Landock had a perfect game through four innings and she allowed just two hits. Black won the opening game of the series, 2-1. Last year, Waterford earned its third straight Junior Division championship and the fifth in the last seven years with a sweep of Black Rock.

WATERFORD, July 26 – Pawcatuck won its third Senior Division state championship in six years with a dominating 12-1 win in five innings over Putnam/Woodstock. Pawcatuck outscored their opponents in the state tournament by a 77-1 margin. “I have never coached a team that can hit the ball like these girls,” Pawcatuck manager Joel Borden told the Norwich Bulletin. “In 2006 and 2007, we had four or five big sticks. There’s 10 or 11 that can hit on this team.” Julie Wanstall hit a 3-run home run and added a run-scoring double for Pawcatuck, while Roslin Wilhelm and Jackie Paride each had two-run singles. Summer Cipriani had a pair of RBIs.

JEWETT CITY, July 24 – North Branford won its first-ever Little League state championship with a dominating victory. P Sydney Senerchia struck out 10 to lead North Branford. Alexa Gallo had a three-RBI double while Marisa Feraiolo had a three-RBI triple.
At the plate, Gallo had a bases-clearing double and Marisa Feraiolo had a bases-clearing triple. Julia Dewitt, Angelina Ramada and Olivia Affinito all added to the run total with RBI. Blakeslee went 4-for-4 and scored twice. Madison Blakesless was 4-for-4 at the plate.

JEWETT CITY, July 23 – Madison Blakeslee struck out nine and gave up just one run as North Branford captured game 1 of the best-of-3 state championship series with a 2-1 win over Granby.
North Branford scored its first run in the second inning. Alexa Gallo walked, stole second and third base and galloped home on an error. In the fifth inning, North Branford’s Britney Godfrey reached on a bunt, stole second base and third base. With two outs, her delayed steal of home gave North Branford a 2-1 edge.

PROSPECT, Aug. 2 – Fairfield American won its second straight Little League Major Division championship with a 13-3 win over Glastonbury American in the decisive game 3 of the best-of-3 championship series. Fairfield’s Brendan Layne hit a pair of home runs and drove in 4 RBI. Fairfield had 16 hits and 4 home runs. John Annuzzi and Brendan Bucher also homered. Fairfield’s Jack Oricoli went the distance on the mound.
Fairfield is the first team to defend its title since Shelton National won two in a row in 2007-08. Four other teams won consecutive Connecticut championships -- Stamford Federal (1981-82), Windsor Locks (1965-66) and Stratford Original (1962-63) and Bridgeport (1949-50).

PROSPECT, July 31 – Brendan Bucher’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted defending state champion Fairfield American to a 3-2 win over Glastonbury American and tied the best-of-3 championship series at 1-1. Fairfield took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by Phillip Vlandis to centerfield before Glastonbury tied the game with a solo home run from Aidan Scott. After ripping a double, Fairfield’s Grant Carnemark scored on an error for a 2-1 lead but Glastonbury tied it in the fifth on a home run from Kory Armando. Fairfield P Eddie Schwartz struck out eight batters.

PROSPECT, July 30 – Glastonbury Americans handed Fairfield American just its second loss of the summer with a 7-4 decision in game 1 of the best-of-3 championship series. Fairfield’s offense was led by Eddie Schwartz, who was 2-for-3 with a home run and Philip Vlandis, who was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Fairfield outhit Glastonbury 10-8 but left seven runners on base. For Glastonbury, Ian Halpin had a two-run home run and teammate Michael Welcer had a three-run homer in the first inning for a 5-1 Glastonbury lead.Glastonbury P Aidan Scott struck out three and limited Fairfield to four runs over 5 1/3 innings.

Burlington won the opener of the best-of-3 series, 13-2 and won the title with a 12-2 win in game two. After dropping a four-run decision in its first game of the Section II tournament, Burlington won five straight games to win the title.

ORANGE, July 31 – Edgewood's Peter Thigpen ripped a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to help Edgewood beat Stafford, 6-5 and win the Little League Senior Division championship by winning the best-of-3 series by a 2-1 margin. Stafford won the opener, 6-2 but Edgewood prevailed in game two, 15-2 and earned a one-run victory in the decisive game three. Bristol trailed by three runs in the fifth inning before scoring one in the fifth and sixth innings and two in the seventh to prevail, 6-5. Jordan Wydra had an two-out RBI single in the fifth inning.
Stafford threatened to extend its one-run lead in the sixth with runners on second and third base with no outs. But Jared Michaels came on in relief, coaxed a ground ball out and struck out to get Bristol out of the jam. In the bottom of the seventh, Stafford had runners on first and second base with one out. But Michaels got Stafford to pop to first base and strikeout to end the game.
